Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that affects a person`s ability feel, think and behave clearly. Schizophrenia is also characterized by hallucinations, delusions and disorganized behaviors. Schizophrenia is a chronic disease and requires the patients on to be on medication for the rest of their lives. it cannot be cured but can be managed through medication and psychosocial interventions such as therapy and rehabilitation.
SYMPTOMS
DELUSIONS. People with schizophrenia might suffer from delusions of grandeur where they might think they possessive some superpowers or they are famous. They might also think they are in danger and think that they are targeted or will be harmed when it’s not true
DISORGANIZED SPEECH AND THINKING. It may be hard for people with schizophrenia to conversate with others. Their thoughts and speech may be disorganized. They may not answer questions fully and may answer what’s not related to the question asked.
HALLUCINATIONS. People with Schizophrenia may have auditory and visual hallucinations which is hearing things that are not there or seeing things that are not there.
UNUSUAL AND DISORGANISED MOTOR BEHAVIOUR. People with schizophrenia may be agitated for no reason and find it hard to concentrate.
HOW CAN I HELP AND SUPPORT MY LOVED ONE. If your loved one has schizophrenia, you might support him/her by taking them to appointments, encourage them to get more sleep, help them stay focused on their goals, monitor them not to take alcohol or drugs.
