There are no exact causes for anxiety disorders. The causes of anxiety disorders are complex and can involve several factors.
Environmental stress: Stressful events that a person has lived through may cause anxiety in later life. Children who endured abuse or traumatic events or witnessed traumatic events are at a higher risk of of developing an anxiety disorder at some point in life.
Medical causes: In some cases, anxiety may be linked to an underlying health issue. Medical conditions that may be linked to anxiety include diabetes, heart disease, drug misuse or withdrawal, chronic pain or irritable bowel syndrome, and rare tumors that produce certain fight-or-flight hormones.
Substance use: Some substances such as stimulant drugs may cause anxiety. Anxiety sometimes might be a withdrawal symptom for certain drugs.
Brain structure or function: People with anxiety disorders may have a heightened amygdala response. The amygdala is part of the brain that response to danger.
Genetics: Some people may have a genetic predisposition toward anxiety.

Psychotherapy also known as talk therapy is an effective treatment for anxiety. Psychotherapy involves working with a therapist to reduce anxiety symptoms. There are various types of psychotherapy which includes exposure therapy, psychodynamic therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Each one of these aims to help understand thoughts, beliefs, or experiences that may be contributing to persistent anxiety.
Medication
Medication does not cure anxiety but can help reduce the symptoms of anxiety, making the condition more manageable. The medication of anxiety include antidepressions, benzodiazepines and betablockers. Some of these drugs can cause side effects including a worsening of anxiety, when a person starts them. It may take several months for them subside hence it is important to work with a mental health practitioner to find what works for you.
